Govt to Implement Special E-license Program for Armed Forces Retirees and Veterans

Port klang: The government will implement a special programme for military retirees and veterans to obtain a class E license to drive heavy vehicles. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced this initiative, highlighting its necessity to address the shortage of heavy vehicle drivers in the haulage and logistics industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized that many military retirees in their 40s possess the energy and capability to drive heavy vehicles, including trucks. The government plans to match these retired drivers, who are skilled and hold a military heavy vehicle license, with opportunities to directly convert to an E license. This decision was made during the recent National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council meeting, where it was agreed to provide a special program license to facilitate this transition.

Minister Loke also urged logistics companies to collaborate by offering job opportunities to these retirees. He expressed confidence that many companies would be interested, given the discipline, toughness, and driving skills of former soldiers. Loke further stated that the initiative should be implemented vigorously and promptly. Additionally, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has a collaborative program with the Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) to support this endeavor.
