Government To Tighten Controls On RON95 Subsidies

Kuala lumpur: The government will introduce several control measures to ensure RON95 petrol subsidies are properly targeted and not misused. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the steps aim to verify that groups requiring more than 300 litres a month, such as e-hailing drivers, are genuinely eligible, with confirmation from their respective companies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, if eligibility is confirmed, individuals can apply with the support of their company. Verification of usage will be conducted through e-hailing system records to ensure the fuel is genuinely used for work. The government will also restrict excessive daily usage, as stated by the minister after launching the National-level Mega E-Invoicing Tour Series 2/2025.

The minister added that all Malaysians aged 16 and above with a valid driving licence will be eligible for the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy, known as BUDI MADANI RON95, which is capped at 300 litres per month. Preparations for the subsidy rollout are well advanced, with all oil companies confirming their readiness, including the installation of machines at petrol stations.

Machines for in-store use have been provided, and most oil companies have activated systems at payment terminals, usable either inside or outside the stations. The preparations are sufficient, but the minister acknowledged that new initiatives may face minor challenges. He expressed hope for public patience and emphasized that the government will honour its promise.
