Government to Establish Digital Asset and AI Advisory Council

Kuala Lumpur: The government has agreed to establish the Digital Asset and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Council, which will play a crucial role in positioning the country at the forefront of the global digital economy. The Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, announced this development during a briefing, highlighting the council as a strategic move in line with the progression of digital assets and AI technology, which are now significant drivers of global economic growth and national competitiveness.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the council will comprise both local and international experts, industry players, academics, and policy thinkers to ensure the approach aligns with international best practices while being tailored to the Malaysian context. This announcement was made during the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) daily briefing, which was broadcast live on both Anwar Ibrahim’s and PMO Malaysia’s Facebook pages.

Meanwhile, Tunku Nashrul stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had reviewed the final preparations for the upcoming 46th ASEAN Summit. The summit, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, is scheduled to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from May 26 to 27. Coordination between ministries and agencies is deemed essential, particularly concerning logistics, security, protocol, and traffic management.

As ASEAN Chair for 2025, Malaysia is committed to ensuring that the summit results in concrete actions that benefit the people and member states. To facilitate a smooth summit, the Ministry of Education will implement home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) sessions in affected areas. Additionally, private sector employees are encouraged to work from home to alleviate pressure on public facilities and infrastructure.

Tunku Nashrul also conveyed that the prime minister had engaged in phone discussions with his Thai counterpart, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, regarding ASEAN’s approach to regional issues, including the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and economic challenges resulting from the United States’ trade tariffs. The two leaders emphasized their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the success of the upcoming ASEAN Summit.

The 46th ASEAN Summit aims to bring together leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states to discuss regional issues, foster economic cooperation, and promote the principles of inclusiveness and sustainability.
