Kuala lumpur: The government will soon introduce additional measures to aid individuals who have lost their jobs due to the ongoing global supply crisis. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that these initiatives would specifically target unemployed graduates and diploma holders to ensure their skills are utilized effectively.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar stated, "I will announce additional measures soon to assist those who were out of work, including unemployed graduates and diploma holders," after a roundtable session with representatives of financial institutions. The meeting also saw the presence of key figures such as Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
The government had previously implemented various measures to mitigate the impact of the global supply crisis. These included maintaining petrol prices under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme and continuing diesel subsidies in Sabah and Sarawak. Additional efforts involved higher monthly assistance under the Agri-Commodity and BUDI Diesel for diesel vehicle owners, farmers, and smallholders, along with increased incentives for padi cultivation. The government also provided financing guarantees of up to RM5 billion to support micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Malaysia's unemployment rate was recorded at 2.9 percent in February 2026, with 506,800 people currently unemployed.
