Government Prepares for Potential El Nino Heat Impacts

Kuala Lampur:First paragraph of the news story.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government is initiating early measures to prepare for potentially extreme heat conditions, with temperatures forecast to possibly reach 40 degrees Celsius from the end of this year until April next year.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, stated that his ministry is consulting with experts in artificial intelligence, science, and technology to identify effective strategies for dealing with the anticipated rise in temperatures. These consultations are part of a broader effort to ensure that both the government and the public remain calm in the face of prolonged hot and dry weather.

Mohamad highlighted concerns over potential water shortages, which could impact the agriculture sector, including crop cultivation and livestock activities. He emphasized the importance of early information and weather forecasts in planning appropriate measures ahead of time.

In addition, Mohamad expressed hope that Budget 2027, set to be tabled on Friday, October 9, would consider the challenges posed by the El Nino phenomenon, suggesting that the Ministry of Agriculture might receive additional allocations to address these issues. Addressing the water supply issue is also a priority to safeguard the agriculture sector and ensure food security during extended periods of hot weather.
