Government Announces 50 Pct Toll Discount for Chinese New Year 2026

Kuala lumpur: The government has announced a 50 percent toll discount on February 14 and 15, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2026 celebrations, as stated by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The discount will be active from 12:01 am on February 14 until 11:59 pm on February 15, with the government compensating highway concessionaires RM19.5 million.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was reached during a recent Cabinet meeting, aligning with the government's initiative to promote unity and well-being among Malaysians of all races and religions. The discount aims to reduce travel expenses for those returning to their hometowns or going on holiday during the festive period, as well as in preparation for Ramadan.

The initiative is applicable to Class 1 (private) vehicles at all toll plazas and Class 2 vehicles at the Penang Bridge. However, it excludes toll plazas at the country's borders, specifically the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

The dates were selected to prevent traffic congestion and to optimize operations, ensuring additional logistics at lay-bys and rest and service areas (R and Rs) are coordinated effectively. Highway users are encouraged to plan their journeys carefully, adhere to speed limits and road signage, and utilize the MyPLUS-TTA and TuJu Highway Navigation applications for recommended travel times.

The public is also advised to check real-time traffic updates through the official channels of the Malaysian Highway Authority or contact the Traffic Management Centre for the latest information.
