Bachok: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced immediate assistance amounting to RM500,000 to repair the building of Sekolah Menengah Ugama (A) Darul Ulum Al-Muhammadiah in Kampung Kolam, which was destroyed in a fire on April 12. Anwar also conveyed the MADANI Government's sympathy over the incident, which resulted in three blocks of the school building being completely destroyed.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government will allocate RM500,000 to assist the school administration in repairing infrastructure affected by the incident. Anwar made this announcement during a meet-and-greet session and visit to Masjid Gong Chapa, attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
The fire, which occurred around 3 pm, destroyed three blocks of the school building, including the academic block, the supervisor's room, and the boys' hostel. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Established in 1990, the school has a total of 252 students, with 112 residing in the hostel.
Meanwhile, the school's principal, Ahmad Norisham Ab Halim, when contacted by Bernama, welcomed the immediate assistance announced by the Prime Minister, describing it as good news and a great relief to the school's management. He mentioned that they had previously received immediate assistance from the Ministry of Education amounting to RM100,000 for cleaning works, wiring, and water piping. He expressed gratitude for the additional assistance from the Prime Minister, emphasizing its significance in allowing students to resume their learning at the school as soon as possible.
