Melaka: The government has allocated nearly RM20 million this year for the implementation of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme. This initiative aims to strengthen the synergy and unity between the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the local community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari announced that the Santuni MADANI programme in the Bukit Katil state constituency is part of the CIMIC efforts, with RM193,000 designated for four infrastructure repair and improvement projects within the community. These projects include repairs to sports courts and community halls, as well as enhancements to fences and drains at SJKC Keh Seng. The projects are being executed by the 9th Squadron, Royal Engineer Regiment (9 Skn RAJD), and are expected to be completed by early November.
At the Santuni MADANI Bukit Katil programme's official launch at the Melaka Tengah Vocational College field, several key figures were present, including Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Department Deputy Director-General Sophian Isswandy Ismail, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan branch director Major Muhamad Zarifi Tumin, and Armed Forces Veterans Foundation CEO Lt Col (Rtd) Azwadi Jamian.
Adly Zahari highlighted that the programme, organized by the Defence Ministry (MINDEF) following guidelines from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM), seeks to empower village potential and bolster community capabilities through direct engagement. This aligns with Pillar Four of the National Defence Strategic Plan (PSPN) 2026-2030, which promotes a 'Whole-of-Government' and 'Whole-of-Society' approach to building sustainable national resilience.
The programme also featured mobile service counters operated by JHEV ATM and the Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT), assisting with housing, healthcare, children's education, and second-career opportunities. Additionally, 400 RAHMAH Baskets were distributed to members of armed forces veterans' associations and local residents.
Adly further urged young people, especially students at vocational institutions, to consider joining the 514 Askar Wataniah, the Malaysian Armed Forces' reserve force. He emphasized that participation in Askar Wataniah not only fosters discipline and patriotism but also provides training opportunities and supplementary income for the youth.
