Saratok: The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) busted illegal logging activities and confiscated logs worth more than RM3.2 million in an operation codenamed ‘Op Taring Libas’ yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Dr. Che Ghazali Che Awang stated that the operation, conducted at 9.30 am in an area in Saratok, led to the arrest of three local men, aged between 36 and 56, and the seizure of 85 logs and six vehicles with a total value of RM3,223,000. The three men and the seizure were then handed over to the Sri Aman Division Forestry Department for further action and investigation under the Sarawak Forests Ordinance.
Meanwhile, in Op Taring Bravo 3 conducted in Padawan and Kota Samarahan, Che Ghazali mentioned that the GOF raided and inspected two premises suspected of being used as a place to store imported livestock products without a valid permit. Two men and three women aged between 23 and 55 were detained for investigation. The GOF team also seized 36,178 kilogrammes of frozen chicken and beef at the premises.
He further stated that the operation also led to the confiscation of two containers and three vehicles of various types. The arrested individuals and seized goods, valued at RM1,602,500, were handed over to the Sarawak Veterinary Department for further action.
