Kuala lumpur: National lawn bowler Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple made history by becoming the first Malaysian athlete to win a medal in the men's singles event at the Commonwealth Games after clinching silver at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games today. In the gold medal match at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here, Izzat Shameer lost 0-2 to England's top player Sam Tolchard, but his qualification for the final was enough to create a new milestone for the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Izzat Shameer surpassed Malaysia's previous best achievement in the event, recorded by Fairul Izwan Abdul Muin, who finished fourth at the Birmingham 2022 edition. Fairul Izwan is now the head coach of the national lawn bowls squad.

Earlier, Malaysia secured a women's pairs silver through Aleena Ahmad Nawawi and Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman, who were defeated by England's Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor. The national lawn bowls squad has so far collected two silver medals, with further challenges still ongoing, including world number one Emma Firyana Saroji, who began her women's singles campaign today.
