GII Initiative Launched to Propel Malaysia Toward AI Nation Status by 2030

Kuala lumpur: The Digital Ministry has introduced the Government Innovation Initiative (GII), a national program designed to foster public-sector innovation and support Malaysia's ambition to become an AI Nation by 2030. The initiative prioritizes the development of Malaysian-made technologies, the strengthening of the domestic AI ecosystem, and the growth of local digital and AI companies both domestically and internationally.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has implemented the RadioConnect initiative as a flagship GII pilot across three public hospitals. RadioConnect is designed to provide cloud-based connectivity with secure access via each hospital's Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

The RadioConnect program aims to streamline the process of electronic storage, retrieval, and sharing of diagnostic images such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. This initiative will enable authorized medical professionals to access patient images from multiple departments across all hospitals in Malaysia, enhancing efficiency and security.

The next stage of the GII involves the creation of Citizen Labs, which will serve as a collaborative platform where the public can submit real-world issues and feedback to relevant ministries. This effort ensures that solutions are targeted and effective for the populace. Central to this initiative is the MyInovasi portal (myinovasi.gov.my), which acts as Malaysia's central hub for fostering a robust national innovation ecosystem.

In support of the GII, Futurise Sdn. Bhd. will transition to operate under MDEC, advancing GII projects through the National Regulatory Sandbox framework. Gobind emphasized that the GII is focused on building a future-proof public sector that is efficient and rooted in local innovation.

Gobind concluded by highlighting that the GII is breaking down silos and unifying national innovation assets under a cohesive ecosystem. Citizen Labs will create a direct connection between citizens' challenges and Malaysian-made AI solutions, accelerating Malaysia's transformation into a leading digital nation by 2030.
