G25 Advocates for Constitutional Adherence in Negeri Sembilan Leadership Dispute

Kuala Lumpur:Negeri Sembilan: G25 Malaysia has called for the Federal and State Constitutions and the rule of law to be upheld in addressing the issue concerning the position of Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the civil society organisation expressed its strong support for the constitutional role of Tuanku Muhriz, emphasizing that any challenges to his position must be resolved in strict accordance with the State Constitution, local customs (adat), and the law.

G25, comprising former civil servants with extensive experience, expressed concern over the gravity of calling for the deposition of a Ruler, labeling it as a serious crime of treason. They highlighted that under Section 121B of the Penal Code, treason is punishable with a mandatory imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, and it also constitutes sedition under Section 4 of the Sedition Act of 1948.

The organisation urged enforcement authorities, including the Attorney General, to take decisive action against those committing acts of treason and sedition, particularly those who do so openly and publicly, without considering the individual's status.

G25 stressed the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the Federal and State Constitutions and the rule of law to prevent a gradual collapse of law and order, which they claim is currently observable.

The group also praised the Attorney General's statement on September 17, which declared the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council's decision to recognize the removal of Tuanku Muhriz as invalid and legally ineffective. It was clarified that the Menteri Besar and State Executive Council members lack unilateral authority to remove the ruler, and any such action must follow a lawful constitutional process.

Additionally, G25 called on the Menteri Besar to clarify his claim of being coerced into signing the proclamation on August 3, and to disclose the identity of the person responsible for the alleged coercion. The group insisted that inconsistencies regarding the proclamation's validity, which were asserted on September 16, 2026, must be explained to the public.
