Kuala Lampur:The retail prices of RON97 petrol and unsubsidised RON95 petrol will increase by 20 sen per litre each, while unsubsidised diesel will rise by 15 sen per litre from September 24 to September 30.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced the new prices as RM5.05 per litre for RON97, RM4.57 per litre for unsubsidised RON95, and RM5.42 per litre for unsubsidised diesel. These changes are attributed to continued supply constraints of refined petroleum products, which have kept market prices elevated.

Disruptions in Russia, a major diesel exporter, have exacerbated the situation, while diesel exports from West Asia fell by over 50 percent between March and August 2026. The MOF emphasized the need for global refining capacity recovery to stabilize prices and noted that reopening petroleum flows through the Strait of Hormuz could help ease pressure on crude oil and refined product prices.

However, global geopolitical uncertainties are likely to continue influencing petroleum price fluctuations in the medium term, with potential conflicts posing risks of significantly higher oil transportation costs. Super tanker rental rates for several routes from West Asia have reached about US$1 million per day due to shipping disruptions.

The MADANI Government remains committed to protecting citizens and businesses from the impact of global uncertainties. They will maintain targeted subsidies through BUDI MADANI, BUDI Diesel, the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS), and the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS). The MOF assured that fuel supplies in the country remain sufficient and urged consumers to use fuel prudently, plan journeys efficiently, and reduce unnecessary travel.
