Accra:The Franchise International Malaysia tour (Road to FIM2027), which began today, offers entrepreneurs, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the chance to explore affordable franchise opportunities with the potential for international expansion.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fuziah Salleh stated that the programme, themed 'From Local to Global', is designed to make franchising more accessible to the public. It aims to change the perception that franchising is only for large corporations.
The tour, which commenced in the Southern Zone, showcases 26 brands across 34 exhibition booths, covering sectors such as food and beverage, education, services, and health and beauty. Fuziah highlighted that the programme allows aspiring entrepreneurs and potential franchisees to meet brand owners and explore business opportunities that fit their financial capabilities. She noted that franchising opportunities extend beyond the food and beverage sector, with initial investments starting as low as RM15,000 in the education sector.
Fuziah also announced that Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas) would allocate RM300 million in financing in 2027 to support franchise industry growth, with 30 percent directed to franchisors and 70 percent to franchisees. Additionally, business financing facilities and microfinancing schemes totaling RM6.6 billion under the national budget will assist entrepreneurs in securing capital and expanding their operations.
At the event, 16 franchise registration certificates were presented to new franchisors, indicating the industry's expansion into diverse sectors. The franchise industry is projected to significantly contribute to the national economy, with domestic sales expected to rise from RM46 billion in 2025 to RM100 billion by 2030.
Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) vice-chairman Khalek Awang highlighted the programme's role in expanding entrepreneurial opportunities for the local community, including youths, graduates, homemakers, and retirees. He mentioned that the roadshow provides visitors with expert advice, financing options, and business guidance from franchise operators and relevant agencies. Franchisees benefit from brand owners’ support in operational training, marketing, and maintaining established standards.
The Road to FIM2027 is part of the lead-up to the Franchise International Malaysia (FIM2027) exhibition, scheduled for May 6 to 8 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The previous event, FIM2026, attracted 159 local and international exhibitors and over 26,000 visitors, generating potential investments exceeding RM600 million.
