Four-Month Old Baby Dies After Found Unconscious At Childcare Centre

Dungun: Dungun police chief Supt Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat stated that police received a report on the tragic incident at 3.41 pm. Preliminary investigations revealed that the baby was dropped off at the childcare centre by her mother around 8 am, reportedly in good health.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, staff at the centre discovered the baby unconscious at approximately 10 am after she had been fed and put to sleep. She was immediately taken to Durian Mas Health Clinic and subsequently referred to Dungun Hospital for further medical attention.

Medical personnel at the hospital conducted thorough examinations and resuscitation efforts, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Despite their efforts, the baby was pronounced dead at approximately 12.45 pm. Initial examinations showed no visible physical injuries on the baby.

The exact cause of death remains undetermined pending a post-mortem examination. Police have identified the two caregivers who were on duty at the time and plan to record statements from them, the victim's parents, and other relevant witnesses. Additionally, medical reports and professional opinions will be obtained to aid the investigation.

The investigation has been classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, as authorities seek to determine if there were elements of negligence or abandonment while the baby was under the centre's care.
