Penang: Former Penang State Secretary Datuk Seri Zulkifli Long, 60, has been named the Penang State-level 'Tokoh Maulidur Rasul' in recognition of his 34 years of service in the civil service.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkifli emphasized a guiding principle throughout his career, which was to consider how he could facilitate life for the community. He shared, 'When waking up in the morning, think about what we can do to make things easier for the community,' a principle he often conveyed to his team during his administrative tenure.
Despite his retirement, Zulkifli expressed his willingness to assist colleagues by offering insights from his extensive experience in Penang. He conveyed this sentiment to reporters after attending the Penang State-level Maulidur Rasul celebration (1448H/2026M) at the Selatan Seberang Perai District Mosque.
During the event, Zulkifli was awarded a certificate of appreciation, a plaque, a gift, and a RM7,000 cash prize by Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib. The father of two described the award as an unexpected honor and blessing post-retirement, noting his aim had always been to fulfill his responsibilities diligently.
Discussing his post-retirement plans, Zulkifli revealed his desire to rest and spend time with his family after a career dedicated to the civil service. 'I have not thought about what I will do next. For now, I want to enjoy this period of rest with my family before making any new plans,' he stated.
Originally from Tasek Gelugor, Seberang Perai Utara, Zulkifli began his civil service career in June 1992 at the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) and played a pivotal role in establishing the Zakat Management Centre in 1994, now known as Zakat MAINPP. His career included various key roles such as District Officer for Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tenag, and Timur Laut, Director of the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP), and Director of the Land and Mines Office (PTG). He also served as Director of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister's Department in Penang before becoming Penang State Secretary in September 2025.
Additionally, three other individuals were honored in their respective categories. Among them, RCAB Food Venture Sdn Bhd managing director Rohaya Che Abu Bakar received the Qudwatur Rasul Award for Entrepreneur. Judicial Commissioner at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, Datuk Muhammad Adam Abdullah, was awarded the Qudwatur Rasul Award for 'Saudara Kita', while Penang State Mufti Department Chief Officer (Researcher) Mohd Salmi Shaimi received the Qudwatur Rasul Award for the Special Category.
