Kuala lumpur: Former English sub-editor of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Teoh Hock Siew passed away yesterday at the age of 75. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the news of his passing was shared by the former New Straits Times Press group managing editor Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor in a Facebook post today. Teoh served as a sub-editor with Bernama Economics Service for more than five years. Former Bernama chief executive officer and editor-in-chief Datuk Yong Soo Heong described Teoh as 'an interesting guy from Penang' who brought his unique personality into the newsroom. He noted that Teoh got the editing jobs done without much fuss, even in a bilingual setup, and mentioned that Teoh's 'Penang ways' would be missed. Meanwhile, Mustapha Kamil mentioned that Teoh was already part of the Business Times' sub-editors' desk when he first joined the organisation. Together with another sub-editor, Teh Poh Chee, they stayed with Business Times for a long time and formed the backbone of the newspaper 's gatekeeping team. Teoh was a long-serving sub-editor at Business Times before joining Bernama. He was regarded as a dedicated member of the editorial team and played a key role in upholding the newspaper's standards.
