KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has decided to postpone its 2024 National Congress, originally scheduled for December, due to the ongoing floods affecting several states. PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil announced the decision after a meeting of the PKR Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi Fadzil stated that the leadership decided to postpone the congress given the likelihood that the flood situation will continue. The new date for the 2024 PKR National Congress will be announced later. Additionally, a special congress to amend the party’s constitution will be conducted in a hybrid format, with the date to be determined by the PKR secretary-general.

The 2024 PKR National Congress was initially set for December 15 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, Johor. The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Wanita congresses were planned for a day earlier at a different venue. Fahmi also conveyed PKR’s deep sympathy for the flood victims across the ni
ne impacted states.

Fahmi mentioned that PKR branch members would be mobilized to assist flood victims, including conducting post-flood cleanups. Besides Kelantan, which has suffered the most from the disaster, other affected states include Terengganu, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Johor, Melaka, Perak, and Selangor.

In the same statement, Fahmi noted that the meeting also addressed the issue of bullying in schools and higher learning institutions. PKR proposes examining several policy measures, including launching a comprehensive bullying awareness campaign.
