Sabah: The number of flood victims in Sabah has increased to 3,685 people from 1,593 families as of 8 am today. This marks a significant rise from the 406 people from 124 families reported yesterday afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee has reported that 18 temporary relief centres have been established across the affected districts, which include Pitas with 30 villages affected, Kota Marudu with 12 villages, and Paitan with five villages.
In Kota Marudu, the number of flood victims has risen to 1,978 people from 925 families, compared to 290 people from 90 families yesterday. These individuals are currently accommodated in four relief centres. Meanwhile, in Pitas, flood victims have increased to 1,515 people from 593 families, up from 116 people from 34 families yesterday. They are now housed in eight relief centres. In Paitan, there are 192 people from 75 families seeking shelter in six temporary centres.
The floods in the three districts began at 6 am yesterday, following several days of continuous rain. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecasted morning rain in inland Sabah, with the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
