Five Strategies Announced to Elevate Federal Territories by 2026

Kuala lumpur: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, has unveiled five strategic initiatives aimed at transforming the Federal Territories into exemplary regions by 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yeoh outlined these strategies during her address at the Federal Territories investiture ceremony, coinciding with Federal Territory Day 2026 at Istana Negara.

Yeoh highlighted that the initial strategy revolves around fostering a sustainable living ecosystem rooted in integrity. This is followed by efforts to enhance urban cleanliness comprehensively. The third strategy focuses on bolstering public safety with improved flood mitigation measures. The fourth strategy emphasizes the wellbeing of residents, while the fifth is dedicated to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within urban areas.

Yeoh emphasized that these strategies are crafted to align with national development priorities and strengthen the Federal Territories' role within the MADANI economy framework. Specific plans include reinforcing Kuala Lumpur as an economic hub, maintaining Putrajaya as the administrative center, and developing Labuan as a blue economy and tourism hub in Borneo.

The economic performance of the Federal Territories was noted to be promising, with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya achieving a 62 percent GDP growth rate, and Labuan surpassing the national average with a 5.4 percent growth rate. Yeoh committed to maintaining clean governance with zero tolerance for corruption or abuse of power, underscoring the government's objective of a sustainable living ecosystem grounded in integrity and public trust.

In her speech, Yeoh expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim for his guidance and support, emphasizing the importance of trust and clean governance. She also conveyed her appreciation for being appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and pledged her dedication to the Federal Territories' advancement for the people's welfare.

Earlier in the ceremony, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, conferred federal awards, decorations, and medals to 54 individuals in celebration of the 2026 Federal Territory Day.
