Fishmonger Fined RM5,000 for Peeping Incident

Kuala Lampur:The Magistrate's Court fined a fishmonger RM5,000 after he pleaded guilty to peeping at his neighbour's wife. Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid also ruled that Tuan Ahmad Farid Tuan Mat, 36, would serve nine months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the man was charged with peeping at the 26-year-old victim while she was taking a bath at a house in Jalan Halimah Guchil at about 11.30 am on September 28. He was aware that his actions could cause fear, anxiety, or distress regarding the victim's safety.

The charge falls under Section 507A (1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mazlinda Mohd Nor advocated for a deterrent sentence to serve the public interest and discourage the accused from reoffending. Meanwhile, defense counsel Farazalila Fauzi from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) requested a minimum fine, citing that her client is single, earns about RM50 daily as a fishmonger, and supports his 66-year-old mother who has cancer.
