Firefighters’ Swift Response Rescues Man Trapped In Burning Home

Penang: Quick action by firefighters saved a man in his 50s trapped inside his burning home on Jalan Damai this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 9.38 am, and teams from Bukit Mertajam and Sungai Bakap stations were dispatched.

'The fire involved a Class A terrace house, which suffered about 40 per cent damage. Firefighters brought it under control within 10 minutes and rescued the man by cutting through the door grille locks,' he said in a statement today.

He said the operation used both offensive and defensive tactics, including a fire break to prevent spread. The blaze was fully extinguished by 10.11 am.

'Overhaul work was conducted to prevent embers from reigniting, and the site has been handed to the Fire Investigation Officer to determine the cause,' he added.
