Final Assessment of Putra Heights Gas Pipeline Fire Impact Completed

Putra Heights: The final physical assessment on residences affected by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, is complete, stated Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad. He mentioned that the assessment report would be presented to the department this evening before being made public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the assessment process was prolonged due to the involvement of multiple agencies and the recurring issue of the crater being filled with water, which required flushing before evaluations could proceed. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari previously reported that 130 of the 235 affected houses in Taman Putra Harmoni were deemed safe as of last Friday, allowing residents to return.

As of yesterday, 509 families had registered as victims of this incident, while those who haven’t are urged to register by today to access available aid. The fire, originating from a Petronas gas pipeline last Tuesday at 8:10 am, resulted in flames reaching over 30 meters high with temperatures soaring to 1,000 degrees Celsius. It took nearly eight hours for the fire to be fully extinguished, leaving 148 houses damaged but reparable, while 87 were irreparably damaged.

Nor Hisham highlighted that the assessment involved collaboration with the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In an audio message shared with the media, he confirmed the completion of assessments across all six zones and mentioned that findings would be submitted to the Selangor Disaster Management Committee. Additionally, the department dispatched 25 investigating officers from various regions to assist in the assessment and ensure the electrical wiring in each affected residence is safe for reoccupation. An official announcement regarding these findings is expected soon.
