Sarikei: The rebranding of the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruit Pesta to Festival Sarikei this year reaffirms Sarikei division’s position as a modern agriculture hub and community-based tourism destination. Sarawak Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the rebranding reflected the change of times and current needs, and that the festival’s slogan – Unite in Culture, Rich in Heritage – carried a meaningful message in efforts to foster unity and appreciation for culture and diversity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii noted that the festival has taken on a new identity as Festival Sarikei, providing a more inclusive and impactful platform. This platform not only highlights agricultural produce but also showcases arts, culture, heritage, and community entrepreneurship. He expressed these sentiments while representing Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the official opening of Festival Sarikei 2025 at Passenger Terminal 1.
He encouraged visitors to engage actively, not merely as attendees but as ‘development partners’ to aid in steering Sarikei towards progressiveness, competitiveness, and resilience. He urged participation in festival activities, support for local products, and the acquisition of knowledge from the experiences offered throughout the festival.
Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii also expressed gratitude to Sarawak premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak government for their ongoing support in the development of Sarikei, particularly in areas of tourism, modern agriculture, and the community-based economy.
