Sarawak: Discussions on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in the education sector have been successfully implemented due to the robust cooperation between the Federal and state governments, according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Speaking at the ‘Malam Berambeh Segulai Sejalai’ event, she emphasized the importance of sustained commitment at both levels to enhance the education standards regionally and nationally.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina highlighted the continued efforts to ensure the smooth realization of MA63, with Sarawak being the pioneering state in collaborating with the Federal Government to implement the agreement, particularly in education. The event was part of the 54th National Teachers’ Day 2025 celebration, with Sarawak as the host.
Sarawak Deputy Minister I for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, recently stated that Sarawak submitted 15 key proposals aimed at enhancing state-level autonomy. These proposals have been presented in the Dewan Rakyat, showing positive progress. The cooperation between the state and the Ministry of Education has improved, resulting in approvals such as Sarawak conducting its own Year Six examinations after the abolition of the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR).
Fadhlina also noted the extraordinary atmosphere of this year’s event in Sarawak, setting a high benchmark for future hosts. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Education Minister Wong Lah Woh, and other officials were present at the event, which featured musical and traditional dance performances by several Sarawak schools.
