Kuala Lampur:The Federal Government's statutory debt-to-GDP ratio was reported at 63.9 percent last year, remaining under the statutory debt limit of 65 percent.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Auditor General's Report (LKAN) 2/2026 detailed that the statutory debt amounted to RM1.295 trillion. This figure includes Malaysian Government Securities, Malaysian Government Investment Issues, and Malaysian Islamic Treasury Bills.
The report noted that the debt-to-GDP ratio has been on an upward trajectory since 2023, increasing from 62 percent to 63.9 percent. Despite the rise, it remains under the statutory limit as defined by the Loans (Local) (Statutory Limit on Borrowing) and Government Funding (Statutory Limit on Moneys Received) Order 2022.
