Jakarta:The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is set to request an official explanation from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the alteration of stoppage time in the match between Indonesia and Bangladesh during the 2026 FIFA World Cup ASEAN qualifiers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, FAM expressed serious concerns over the change in stoppage time, initially set at two minutes and then extended to seven minutes in the match held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. The association plans to ask FIFA to clarify the procedures and reasons behind the change.
FAM emphasized the importance of match time management for fair and transparent competition, particularly given the impact of this match on Group A's final standings and the qualification for the finals. The association is urging FIFA to review the incident and explain the decision by the match officials, ensuring compliance with regulations.
In their statement, FAM stressed that the request is not about disputing the match result or any team's achievements but aims to clarify the officiating processes to eliminate confusion. During the match, Indonesia's victory over Bangladesh, with a final score of 9-2, allowed them to surpass Malaysia in the group standings due to a higher number of goals scored.
Despite Malaysia's 6-0 win against Singapore in Bandung, Indonesia's late goals in Jakarta secured their advancement to the finals, showcasing the significance of the stoppage time decision in the tournament's outcome.
