Fahmi Criticizes PAS Focus on Foreign Policy Over Domestic Issues

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's position on the China-Taiwan issue remains consistent and has never changed since the administration of former Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. He responded to PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan's claim that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's remarks in a recent international media interview had placed the country in a difficult diplomatic position and narrowed its diplomatic space.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stated that the Prime Minister's position was in line with the country's longstanding foreign policy as maintained by Wisma Putra. He emphasized that Malaysia's stance has remained unchanged since the time of the late Tun Abdul Razak and that the Prime Minister's comments were consistent with this policy. Fahmi expressed his disagreement with Takiyuddin's allegations and clarified that there has been no deviation from the established position.

Fahmi also expressed disappointment with the opposition party's focus on foreign policy issues while neglecting domestic matters of significance to Muslims, such as the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Tabung Haji. He highlighted that the RCI report had revealed inefficiencies and financial losses in the management of Tabung Haji's accounts and investments between 2014 and 2017.

He questioned the silence of PAS on the Tabung Haji issue and urged them to address and debate it more actively. Fahmi criticized the opposition's decision to walk out of the Dewan Rakyat during discussions on the matter, stating that the public expected them to engage in the debate.

According to Fahmi, the government is currently focused on efforts to restore the integrity and proper standing of the important Muslim institution of Tabung Haji.
