Seremban: A factory operator was charged with murder in the Magistrate’s Court here today in connection with the death of his father-in-law last month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, V. Karthiy, 32, is accused of murdering P. Sasi Kumar, 52, by allegedly punching and beating him in Taman Rahang at around 2:30 pm on April 27. During the court session, Karthiy nodded when the charge was read out before Sessions Court Judge Hazeelia Muhammad, who was presiding as a Magistrate. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.
The prosecution claims that Karthiy repeatedly attacked his father-in-law, leading to his death at the scene. The charge is filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the death penalty or imprisonment ranging from a minimum of 30 years to a maximum of 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, should the accused not be sentenced to death.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur’ Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi, while Karthiy’s defense was handled by lawyer AR Thamayanthy. The court has scheduled June 18 for the next mention, pending the submission of medical and chemical reports.
