Kuala lumpur: Selangor FC will have to play the second leg of their 2026-2027 FA Cup round of 16 tie against Sabah FC behind closed doors at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium tomorrow. The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), through an Emergency Sole Arbitrator yesterday, rejected Selangor FC's application to suspend the implementation of the sanction.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the emergency application was made under Rule 23 of the AIAC Rules 2026 and was heard at 5 pm Malaysian time yesterday. Following the decision, the sanction imposed on Selangor Football Club to play without spectators for the 2026/2027 FA Cup match against Sabah on Sept 9, 2026, at its home venue remains in force, FAM said in a statement today.

Previously, the Red Giants appealed against the sanction requiring them to play behind closed doors, which was imposed by the FAM Disciplinary Committee on Nov 15 last year. The sanction was subsequently upheld by the FAM Appeals Committee on Nov 26 the same year following incidents involving spectator conduct and match organisation.

Selangor and Sabah drew 2-2 in the first leg at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu, on Wednesday (Sept 2).
