Kuala lumpur: Ethical, independent, and responsible media play a vital role in strengthening democracy and building a well-informed society, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated. Highlighting the increasing importance of media amidst the challenges posed by misinformation and fake news, Fahmi emphasized the critical role of media in today's information-heavy environment.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi expressed gratitude towards media practitioners for their dedication and commitment to integrity and truth in reporting, in a Facebook post today. He underscored the significance of their work in serving the interests of the people and the nation.

Fahmi noted his participation alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Malaysian Journalists' Night (MWM) 2026. The event also featured the presentation of the MPI-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards 2025, which recognized excellence and contributions to the journalism profession.

The gathering saw approximately 1,000 guests from the media industry, including editors and journalists, as well as representatives from government ministries, corporate organizations, higher education institutions, and media partners. The Malaysian Journalists' Night, organized annually by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), serves as a prestigious platform to honor media practitioners' contributions and excellence in journalism while strengthening strategic ties between the media industry, government, and the corporate sector.
