Kuala lumpur: All programmes, including entertainment events, must be organised with due regard for values, decorum, religious sensitivities and local societal norms, UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of respecting the views of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) and the Federal Territories Mufti Department, as these views reflect the concerns of a broad segment of Malaysian society.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, stated that guidelines should be reviewed and strengthened to ensure all events align with the nation's cultural values, religious principles, and identity. He highlighted that while entertainment is not inherently wrong, it must have limits to prevent compromising values. He urged organisers to collaborate with relevant authorities to maintain social harmony, reinforcing this as UMNO's position.
Recently, JAWI objected to the Air Rain Rave Music Festival 2026, taking place in Bukit Bintang, citing concerns over its potential to undermine moral standards and societal values. JAWI director Hanifuddin Roslan called for a review of the festival's concept, considering the sensitivities of Malaysia's multiracial, multireligious, and multicultural society.
Meanwhile, the Federal Territories Mufti Department also emphasized the need for a holistic evaluation of the festival, considering perspectives of Islam, ethics, and public interest.
