Kuala lumpur: Recent global developments, especially renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran, demonstrate that energy security and maritime security are no longer separate issues, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, emphasized that these issues are deeply interconnected and could have far-reaching impacts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah highlighted that events occurring thousands of kilometers away can now affect electricity prices, fuel supplies, trade flows, and ultimately the daily lives of ordinary people. He made these remarks during his participation as a panellist at the Distinguished Royal Session with the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, at the 8th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation.

Fadillah noted that recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz had repercussions not only for Malaysia but also for the entire global value chain. He explained that international logistics and shipping have been affected, leading to increased insurance costs, energy prices, and supply chain expenses.

Malaysia, he said, is addressing these challenges calmly and responsibly through diplomacy rather than confrontation. Fadillah emphasized Malaysia's longstanding commitment to being a friend to all nations, relying on an open, stable, and rules-based trading system. He also pointed out Malaysia's strategic location in the Strait of Melaka, a vital trading route, and how developments there can impact the global community.
