Election Commission Schedules Special Meeting for 16th Johor State Election

Kuala lumpur: A special meeting regarding the 16th Johor State Election is set for June 12, as announced by the Election Commission (EC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus confirmed that the commission received a notice from Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi about the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on June 2. This action aligns with Article 23(2) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895.

As stipulated in Article 23(4) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895, an election must occur within 60 days following the dissolution of the State Assembly. The upcoming special meeting, led by EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, aims to finalize significant dates for the 16th Johor state election. Discussions will cover the writ of election, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used, and other election preparations.

A press conference will follow immediately after the special meeting to provide further details. The Johor State Assembly officially dissolved on June 1, with the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

Additionally, Khairul Shahril announced that applications for postal voting are now accessible online at https://myspr.spr.gov.my. This service is available for all postal voting categories, including Category 1A (police personnel, military personnel, election officials, EC members/officers, and media personnel), Category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad), and Category 1C (agencies and organizations).

He emphasized that all postal voting applications must be submitted online, and eligible voters wishing to vote by post need to register or have a MySPR account before applying. The closing date for postal voting applications across all categories will be announced in due course.
