Setiu:An elderly man died after his Proton Wira collided with a Proton Persona at Kilometre 44 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Sungai Tong.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim was identified as 72-year-old Zulkefli Daud, a retired Public Works Department employee from Kampung Jeli Seberang, Jeli, Kelantan. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Setiu police chief Supt Zahril Asri Mohd Zain reported that the accident occurred around 5.30 pm. It is believed that the victim's car suddenly swerved into the opposite lane, leading to the collision. The driver of the Proton Persona, a 41-year-old woman traveling from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu, sustained minor injuries.

The victim's body was later taken to the Setiu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination. The incident is under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Authorities are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact the Traffic Division of the Setiu District Police Headquarters to aid in the investigation.
