Kuala lumpur: Injured national number one mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei is clinging to hope for a miraculous recovery that would allow her to defend her World Championship title in New Delhi and participate in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Despite suffering from a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, Ee Wei remains optimistic about her chances. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ee Wei is facing a race against time to recover from her injury and has not completely ruled out her participation in the upcoming tournaments. She mentioned, "I can't confirm it now (World Championships and Asian Games participation). Maybe I need to pray to God to give me a miracle." Ee Wei, who sustained the injury during the Singapore Open 2026 quarter-finals, is awaiting further medical assessments before deciding on potential surgery. The World Championships are set to take place in New Delhi from August 17-23, while the Asian Games are scheduled from September 19 to October 4. Las t year, Ee Wei and her partner Chen Tang Jie made history as the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to win the world title, defeating China's Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the final in Paris. Despite her positive outlook, Ee Wei admitted that the injury has taken a toll on her emotionally. She expressed, "It's okay; I think I need to move on and do my best for the recovery and return to the court. Everything happened for a reason. Maybe it's time for me to rest. What I can do is to maintain discipline and follow the instructions of my coach and physiotherapist." In the meantime, Ee Wei has encouraged her partner, Tang Jie, to seize the opportunity while paired with her temporary replacement, Clarissa San, for the China Open in Jiangsu from July 21-26, as confirmed by national mixed doubles head coach Nova Widianto. Ee Wei also expressed her gratitude towards BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and BAM Performance Committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei for their unwavering support throughout her recovery process.
