Educators Encouraged to Create Safe Environments for Student Expression

Kuala Lampur:Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (Perempuan) Al Mashoor: Schools, particularly educators and guidance and counselling teachers, are being encouraged to actively foster environments where students feel safe to express their concerns.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Lim Hui Ying emphasized the importance of building students' confidence that their concerns will be treated with empathy and seriousness. She stated that when students believe their voices will be heard, schools become safer and more trusted spaces. This was highlighted during the launch of the Zero Tolerance for Violence: Respect the Boundaries programme.

Lim noted that the school years introduce various challenges such as academic pressure, friendships, family issues, and social media-related challenges. She expressed hope that awareness of personal boundaries and protection would extend beyond the programme into classrooms, homes, and the wider community.

The ministry, she added, offers several support avenues, including the 24-hour Talian Kasih hotline, WhatsApp support, and access to the Anti-Sexual Harassment Tribunal through the e-TAGS system.

Additionally, Lim, who is also the Tanjong MP, announced an allocation of RM95,000 for installing 75 CCTV cameras in three secondary schools within her constituency. She confirmed that two schools already have CCTV systems meeting Ministry of Education guidelines, ensuring all five secondary schools in the constituency are now equipped with functional CCTV systems.
