Kuala lumpur: The country's education system must produce a generation that masters knowledge and emerging technologies while remaining firmly grounded in values, ethics, and good moral character, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized the importance of mastering fields such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing to ensure the country does not lag in adapting to global changes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the necessity of balancing technological advancements with an understanding of culture, history, religion, and humanitarian values. He stressed the importance of knowing one's culture, history, religion, and critically, values, ethics, and character. The Prime Minister stated that aspirations should aim high, yet remain firmly rooted to the ground, signifying a blend of ambition and foundational principles.

Anwar made these remarks while officiating the opening of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Sheikh Tahir Jalaluddin and launching the Nuqaba Programme. The school is named after Islamic reformist Sheikh Tahir Jalaluddin, and Anwar noted that it should not only commemorate history but also rekindle the spirit of knowledge, awareness, and reform championed by the scholar. Sheikh Tahir was recognized for his emphasis on the importance of knowledge and an understanding of Islam that addresses contemporary challenges while seeking to free society's minds and spirits from colonial influences.

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of bullying, asserting that it should have no place in any educational institution, including religious schools, as it contradicts the goals of education and character development. Anwar urged against concealing bullying cases to protect school reputations, as this would deny victims the support and justice they deserve. He called on teachers and students to collaborate in fostering a safe school environment and to set an example through good character and positive conduct.
