Education Ministry Implements Haze Action Plan for School Closures

Baku:The Ministry of Education has initiated coordination of school operating procedures in line with the National Haze Action Plan (PTJK) to ensure systematic decisions regarding school closures, based on Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and health advice.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek stated that under these coordinated procedures, outdoor activities will be postponed if the API reading exceeds 100, while schools will be closed if the reading surpasses 200, following the PTJK guidelines.

The minister emphasized the variability of API readings, noting that closing schools prematurely could lead to unnecessary loss of learning time. She expressed appreciation for the National Disaster Management Agency's (NADMA) emphasis on adhering to the PTJK for haze management.

Minister Fadhlina also addressed parents' concerns about daily school operation decisions during the haze, particularly for children with health issues. She assured parents that they could keep their children at home if worried about health and safety, as long as they inform the school authorities.

She further highlighted the importance of balancing children's health and their educational continuity, hoping that the coordinated approach will offer parents more certainty and alleviate their challenges.
