Drowning Incidents: Two Teenage Girls In Quarry Pool In Sandakan; Teen Boy In Putrajaya

Sandakan: Two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, were found drowned in a quarry pool in Kampung Gum-Gum here this afternoon. Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said that one victim was found unconscious by the public before the arrival of the fire brigade. Meanwhile, another victim was found by the fire department team shortly after they began the search and rescue (SAR) operation. "The medical team on-site confirmed the deaths of both victims," he said in a statement here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, earlier, Jimmy said his team received an emergency call at 5.31 pm and a seven-member team rushed to the scene for a SAR operation. He said the victim's body was handed over to the police for further action and the operation ended at 7 pm.

Meanwhile, in Putrajaya, a teenage boy was found drowned at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Tanjong Sepat, Sepang after he was believed to have gone missing while swimming with his friends this afternoon. Selangor senior fire officer II Mohamad Issmanto Md Pono said the body of Mohd Akhil Zamani Sanusi, 17, was found about 300 metres from the shore, which is 10 metres from the location where he was reported missing.

The victim is believed to have drowned while swimming at the beach with his friends at around 3.10 pm. "The victim was found at 6.50 pm by the Water Rescue Team unit using the diving method (Unsurface)," he said in a statement today. Mohamad Issmanto said that Ministry of Health officers confirmed the victim's death before the body was handed over to the police for further action.
