Kuala Lumpur:Former minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa has denied allegations of her involvement in groundbreaking ceremonies for Myanmar refugee settlements.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Zaliha described the claims circulating on social media as false and malicious. She clarified that a photograph linking her to an individual purportedly involved in such activities was misleading.

Dr. Zaliha stated that the photo was likely taken at the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur on August 12, 2025. She attended the event to deliver a special address and participate in a joint launch ceremony officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

She emphasized that her photograph with a participant does not imply any personal or professional relationship. Dr. Zaliha announced plans to report the issue to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further investigation and action.

Furthermore, she rejected claims of supporting or facilitating Myanmar refugee resettlements, highlighting initiatives she led to address illegal settlements and security issues in the Federal Territories. Among these was the establishment of the KL Strike Force, which conducted operations against illegal Myanmar refugee settlements.

Dr. Zaliha urged the public not to misinterpret a single image to create unfounded narratives.
