Dr Akmal Still Melaka Exco Member Despite Resignation Letter

Melaka: UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh remains the state executive council (Exco) member for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He clarified that even though Dr Akmal, the Merlimau state assemblyman, had submitted a resignation letter from his post as an Exco member, the issue has not yet been discussed with Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Ab Rauf stated, 'I have yet to consult (Tun Mohd Ali). which means that for now he remains an Exco member.' He further emphasized that no final decision has been made on whether the resignation will be accepted or rejected. As of today, Dr Akmal continues to perform his duties as an Exco member.

The statement was made during the Melaka State Executive Council Day with the People Programme (HEBAT) Series 1/2026 at the Seri Negeri Complex. Dr Muhamad Akmal had announced his resignation after UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi turned down his proposal for UMNO to withdraw from the Unity Government.
