DOSH Probes Fatal Accident at Sungai Buloh Water Tank Cleaning Site

Sungai buloh: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is conducting an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred during water tank cleaning operations at Menara Saujana Perdana 1 in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, involving an industrial trainee on June 16.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, DOSH director-general Hazlina Yon stated that investigators from the Selangor DOSH office have already inspected the site and issued a notice to prevent any disturbance to the accident location. Investigations are ongoing, with statements being recorded from relevant witnesses. If any breaches of occupational safety and health laws are identified, DOSH will take enforcement action.

The investigation is being carried out under Sections 15, 17, and 18 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, which outline the responsibilities of employers, self-employed individuals, and other parties in ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of workers and others impacted by work activities. Hazlina emphasized the importance of adhering to occupational safety and health requirements, especially in confined spaces.

She highlighted that all work activities should follow established safe work procedures, including obtaining relevant permits and implementing control measures before workers enter confined spaces. Employers are responsible for assessing risks associated with work activities and ensuring adequate training and supervision for industrial trainees or new workers involved in high-risk tasks.

Hazlina stressed the importance of ensuring that individuals understand the risks, comply with procedures, and perform duties safely to prevent future incidents. Employers are urged to prioritize the safety and health of all persons involved in work activities, including vendors and contractors.
