Kuala Lumpur: Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and EDOTCO Group have successfully installed 5G In-Building Solutions (IBS) at both Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2, significantly enhancing connectivity for travellers and visitors at these key transportation hubs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, DNB announced in a joint statement that this development aligns with Malaysia’s upcoming role as the ASEAN chair in 2025, underlining the nation’s dedication to upgrading digital infrastructure. The installation, which was completed in just two months, was officially activated during a handover ceremony involving DNB, EDOTCO Group, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

The 5G IBS implementation is designed to provide faster and more reliable connectivity within public and commercial spaces at the airports, thus ensuring a seamless digital experience for users. This indoor coverage also opens up opportunities for businesses and enterprises to utilize new 5G use cases, aiming to improve operational
efficiency and deliver enhanced value to customers.

DNB’s CEO, Datuk Azman Ismail, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding 5G infrastructure across various strategic, commercial, and governmental locations. He noted that the installation at KLIA and KLIA2 is a part of DNB’s ongoing initiative to provide superior indoor connectivity in high-traffic areas.

Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Dayinde, the chief information officer of MAHB, highlighted that integrating 5G infrastructure at KLIA represents a transformative upgrade. It is set to improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience by leveraging the high speed, low latency, and substantial data capacity offered by 5G technology. This enhancement supports the use of internet-of-things (IoT) devices, smart sensors, and advanced digital solutions, which are pivotal for meeting evolving demands while maintaining efficiency, satisfaction, and resilience.
