Johor bahru: The dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, leading to a state election, is the absolute prerogative of Sultan Ibrahim, according to Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He expressed confidence that Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi would advise Sultan Ibrahim on the appropriate timing for the election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Hasan stated that the decision on when to dissolve the assembly could vary, depending on the discretion of the Menteri Besar. However, no official discussions have taken place at the party headquarters or central leadership level regarding this matter. He assured that once the Menteri Besar receives royal consent, he would consult the central leadership to plan for the election.
On May 16, Onn Hafiz, also Johor BN chairman, announced that the coalition would contest all 56 state seats in the forthcoming election. In the 2022 state polls, BN secured 40 seats, Pakatan Harapan won 12, Perikatan Nasional took three, and MUDA claimed one.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Hasan, who is also UMNO deputy president, urged all parties to handle political situations with maturity to ensure the well-being of the public. He emphasized that government actions should aim to assist the people rather than cause them distress.
In a related development, Mohamad, also Rembau MP and Rantau assemblyman, announced government approval for constructing two new schools in Bandar Sri Sendayan to address overcrowding. The projects, involving both a secondary and primary school, are in the tender stage with a total allocation of approximately RM135 million.
