Perlis: Just hours after recovering from food poisoning, Perlis athlete Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Rahman struck gold in the men's discus throw at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today with a personal-best throw of 44.32 metres (m).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 17-year-old surpassed his previous personal best of 41.22m, set in Chanthaburi, Thailand, last June, to add to his gold medal achievement. Firdaus shared his determination to excel at SUKMA despite his recent health setback, stating, "I came to SUKMA with the intention of setting a personal best because I had just recovered from stomach pain and food poisoning. I had been suffering for two days since Tuesday and only felt better this morning," he told reporters after the event.

Another Perlis athlete, Muhammad Haziq Danial Mohd Hafizullah, took the silver with a throw of 42.77m, while Sabah's Syed Ali Syed Ahmad claimed the bronze with a throw of 41.03m.

Meanwhile, Pahang's Muhammad Imran Abdullah won his second gold of the biennial Games after dominating the men's triple jump, following his victory in the long jump. The 20-year-old leapt 15.25m to edge Penang's Ng Tak Sin, who was just 0.02m behind with 15.23m, while Selangor's Ang Ming Feng took bronze with a leap of 15.06m.
