Ibaraki City:Digital Realty has announced the commencement of construction for KIX15, a new 24 megawatt data centre at its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. This facility is developed by MC Digital Realty (MCDR), the company's joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, KIX15 will be the fifth data centre at the KIX Campus and is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028. The project is part of Digital Realty's long-term growth strategy in Asia Pacific, with a focus on expanding their infrastructure in Japan.
The new data centre will enhance Digital Realty's presence in Tokyo and Osaka, bringing MCDR's Japan portfolio to a total of ten data centres with approximately 220 megawatts of IT capacity. This expansion follows the recent opening of the NRT14 Data Center in Inzai City, which achieved the DGX-Ready Data Center certification.
KIX15 will be integrated into PlatformDIGITAL, Digital Realty's global data centre platform, and will play a crucial role in the Kansai AI Infrastructure Co-Creation Project. This initiative aims to support AI infrastructure development in the Kansai region by enhancing connectivity and collaboration with telecom and technology partners.
Designed to support both air- and liquid-cooling technologies, KIX15 will offer advanced security and scalability. It is expected to cater to hyperscalers, cloud service providers, and companies deploying AI infrastructure. Through the ServiceFabric orchestration and interconnection platform, customers will benefit from low-latency connectivity to domestic and international locations, including access to over 300 Digital Realty data centres globally.
