Diesel Prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan Remain Steady at RM2.15, Essential for Daily Life

Kuala lumpur: The price of diesel in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan will remain at RM2.15 per litre, as it is considered a crucial element for daily activities in these regions. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) emphasized the importance of diesel in these areas, highlighting the unique challenges faced by residents due to the region's vastness and challenging terrain.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance stated that the regions of Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, which together are approximately 60 percent larger than Peninsular Malaysia, present distinct logistical challenges. These factors contribute to a higher dependency on diesel, which is vital for various economic activities and electricity generation. The ministry noted that diesel plays a significant role in transportation and fishing, two key components of the local economy.

The Ministry of Finance further explained that the vast interior regions, characterized by difficult terrain and limited road access, necessitate reliance on water transport and heavy vehicles like four-wheel drives. In rural areas where electricity infrastructure is lacking, diesel becomes the primary energy source, underscoring its importance for daily life. The ministry also highlighted that diesel consumption in the region amounts to about two billion litres, and the targeted diesel subsidies are designed to meet consumer needs while promoting equality to ensure the effective distribution of resources to the populace.
