KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara today extended its condolences to the families of two former senators, Tan Sri G Vadiveloo and Tun Daim Zainuddin who died recently.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah conveyed the condolences at the opening of today’s sitting by asking all members of the House to observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect and in remembering the contributions and services of the two former members.
He reported that Vadiveloo, who died on Oct 19, served as a senator from April 13, 1992, to June 12, 1995, while Daim, who passed away on Oct 13, was a senator from 1980 to 1982.
The Dewan Negara president described Vadiveloo and Daim as principled individuals and authoritative leaders, as well as respected friends, noting that their passing was a significant loss to the country and their services will always be remembered.
“The Senate would also like to express its condolences to their family members who were present as a mark of respect,”
he stated.
