Kuching:DAP is set to contest seven seats in the Kuching and Bau areas for the upcoming 13th Sarawak State Election, as announced by its state chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chong revealed that during a party state committee meeting, the confirmed seats include Padungan, Pending, Batu Kitang, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Tasik Biru, and Opar.
Chong also mentioned the possibility of contesting an eighth seat, Batu Lintang, as the party aims to enhance representation in the State Legislative Assembly and improve checks and balances for Sarawak's residents. Further announcements on the party's decisions regarding seats in Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu, and Miri are expected within one to two weeks.
In the previous 12th Sarawak State Election in 2021, DAP secured victories in only two out of the 26 seats it contested, specifically Padungan and Pending. The ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), won 76 out of the 82 contested seats, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) claimed four seats.
The Election Commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting on November 6 to discuss key dates for the forthcoming state election.
